Mr. Pat WaltersPat Walters who lives on Fir Road near Bourbon is not happy with a lot of things happening on his road.

First he asked the County Commissioner why the berm wasn’t done on Fir Road as part of the paving project.  He said there are quite a few spots breaking down on the edge of the road due to the increase numbers of trucks including semis, cement trucks and car carriers using the roadway.

Mr. Walters said there are signs on both ends of Fir Road that say NO THRU SEMI TRAFFIC but there is no enforcement of the signs.

His second request was for a dangerous intersection sign at Fir Road and US 30.  He said he requested one in 2014 and 2015 at the County Highway Department but nothing has happened.  Mr. Walters also wants a flashing red light at the intersection.

The Commissioners told Walters the state would be the one to post a red flashing light at the intersection and not the county.

A third comment pertained to county snow plow drivers.  He told the commissioner he was told there is a 30 mph speed limit for the snow plows.  He said they are running much higher than that and he feels it’s dangerous to the general public.

Mr. Walters claimed his neighbor spoke to a county commissioner and asked why on Fir Road from Bremen on down to 3rd or 5th Road the driveway approaches were paved in a foot or so but the contractor didn’t do it on the entire project.  He suggested the “Good Ol Boy” tactic was being used.

Jason Peters, Supervisor of the County Highway Department said the contractor was to pave the driveway approaches for those that were paved and the driveways that were gravel, the highway department would bring in fill stone.

Mr. Walters said his last point was the stop sign at 9th Road and Fir Road.  He wanted to know why the stop sign is still there.  He said it’s the only stop between Bremen and Fir Road.

Peters said his employees have been doing more paving this year and haven’t worked on the berm although the Fir Road berm is on the list to do this year.

Before he left Mr. Walters also told the commissioner they should enact a Frost Law in the spring to save the roads.
