Lion's Club_Ruben OttenwalderRuben Otterwalder, founder of Project Hearts presented an interesting overview of what Project Hearts is all about.  It is a non-profit organization in the Dominican Republic that has been working with education, health and economic development for the past five years.  Their mission is to educate the people of Baitoa in the areas of physical and spiritual health so they can have the knowledge and resources needed to transform their own communities. Their plan is to exchange the cycle of poverty for the cycle of EMPOWERMENT. Project Hearts works out of Baitoa Santiago Dominican republic and volunteers believe the education and empowerment they offer will be passed along from generation to generation.  There are four important areas, community Health Leadership which is preventative health, family planning, and maternity care; the second is Field of Dreams dealing with rural agriculture, nutrition, economic opportunity;  the third is Integral Education, social, emotional, and spiritual; the fourth is W.A.S.H. for water access, sanitation, and hygiene.  For more information about Project Hearts or to make a donation, visit www.heartsdr.org.

LionClub_NewMember 8-2018Past district Governor from the Lakeville Lions Club David Court installed three new members to the Plymouth Lions Club.  Membership Chairman, Ken Lukenbill presented for installation, Steve and Sandy Reed, and Antoinette Colangelo.  All were welcomed by the members present, and look forward to working with them in a field of service to our community.

Lions Club International has a new international President, Gundrum Yngvadottir from Iceland.  She looks forward to reaching for New Horizons.  There are three areas she wants to focus on this year, they are Membership, Friendship Comradery, and lastly she wants to revive a lost art.  And that’s the Art of Storytelling.  After clubs complete a service project, take a moment to write down the story of the work.  Who did you help?  What circumstances led you to reach out in that particular way?  It’s through stories that we connect and learn.

In keeping with the President’s last goal, the Plymouth Lions Club wants to thank everyone who patronized their pavilion at the park during the Marshall County Blueberry Festival and enjoyed the Blueberry Pancakes and Sausage.  It is with these projects that we are able to help others in need, offer scholarships each year, and continue to serve out community.  Let’s join out new president and make this a year in which we all reach new horizons and we do that when we serve together.  If you or anyone you know would like to join the Plymouth Lions Club, please contact any Lions Club member.
