This month Marshall County Building Commissioner Chuck DeWitt told the Marshall County Commissioners and Council members of state mandates that went into effect on July 1st that will require his department to do much more work.
Senate Enrolled Act 393 requires the Building Inspector to repot new construction or remodeling projects using advanced structural components to local fire departments and to the 911 Dispatch Center. These components burn faster, which could be dangerous to fire fighters entering a burning building.
DeWitt told both groups, his department is being required to submit blueprint and drawings which will slow down the permitting process.
A contractor education day will be held in the near future to explain the requirements.
