Mugshot_Joseph Schirf (1)On Thursday, July 5th at 9:25 in the evening, Marshall County Officer Wozniak initiated a traffic stop in the area of US 31 and 9A Road for false registration.

During the course of the investigation, Officer Wozniak utilized his canine Irok around the exterior of the vehicle.  The canine showed a positive indication of the odor of narcotics.  A search of the vehicle resulted in the findings of two hypodermic needles and a baggie containing methamphetamine residue. 

The driver of the vehicle, 36 year old Joseph E. Schirf of South Bend was taken to the Marshall County Jail for unlawful possession of a syringe and possession of methamphetamine.

Listeners and readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is merely an allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only probable cause to believe a crime has been committed. They are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings and are entitled to be represented by counsel and entitled to a trial by jury at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
