County news # 2Kevin Overmyer, President of the County Commissioners said Monday that each commissioner received a letter from Waggoner, Irwin and Scheele, the county’s human resources consultants in April with a recommendation on what to do at the Highway Department.

Since December the highway department has been operating without the engineers position that was created to replace the administrative position.  While the position was offered to an individual, he turned it down because the salary was too low.  Commissioners Kurt Garner and Mike Delp have left the position open which requires Highway Supervisor Jason Peters to take on additional responsibilities.

Waggoner, Irwin & Scheele recommended moving Peters into an Interim Highway Superintendent position.  At the first of the year when a new county commissioner will join the group a determination will be made on the engineer’s position.

Commissioner Overmyer said Jason Peters has worked many hours of overtime without compensation doing his job and the duties of the administrator.  On Monday he suggested moving Peters into the interim superintendent position with a salary of $57,080.80.  He suggested additional compensation of $676.46 per month since the other administrative position has been vacated.

Commissioners Delp and Garner said they would discuss the recommendation at their July meeting. Overmyer said the County Council may also discuss the recommendation at their July meeting.
