Marshall County Sheriff Matthew Hassel announced that National Police Officer Memorial Week is May 12th through May 18th. This annual event recognizes the sacrifices made by law enforcement officers across the United States who have given their lives in the line of duty to protect and serve their communities.

Last year approximately 137 federal, state, local, and tribal law enforcement officers gave the supreme sacrifice and were killed in the line of duty.  There were also 25 K-9’s killed in the line of duty. On average 140 – 160 law enforcement officers are killed in the line of duty every year. In 2023 Indiana lost 7 law enforcement officers to line of duty deaths.

Marshall County Sheriff Matt Hassel asks citizens to please take a moment during this week to remember all police officers and pay honor to the law enforcement officers who were killed or injured in the line of duty while serving their communities.
