Bourbon Water Tower_1As summer sporting events get into full swing, parking around the ball fields in Bourbon becomes an ongoing problem. During the May meeting of the Bourbon Town Council, all three members supported strict enforcement of illegal parking and advised the Police Department to issue tickets for violations. The majority of the tickets were then handed out for residents parking over the sidewalk areas and other violations.

During the June Council meeting a number of residents questioned why they had been given tickets this year when it has been permitted in previous years. After discussion and further consideration, the Council rescinded the issuing of tickets for illegal parking in those areas and will now refund the fines of $20 to each of the 18 people affected

The Board indicted that they will look into ways to designate parking without blocking the sidewalks.

Additionally, after a resident voiced her concerns over inadequate handicap parking spaces, the Council members agreed to study the situation especially at the ball diamond fields.

In other matters, Council member Larry Wattenbarger asked that candidates displaying political signage adhere to the ordinance that prohibits signs in the town’s right-a-ways.

Hensley & Sons was awarded a contract to extend the sidewalk north of town to the newly opened Dollar Store in Bourbon. The quote from Hensley was $9,600.
