Lake PatrolMarshall County residents have many lakes to enjoy all summer long; however, patrolling Lake Maxinkuckee to help ensure safety for all requires a lot of manpower.

On June 12, Sheriff Matt Hassel appeared before the Marshall County Council to explain the need for a pay raise from $22.84 per hour to $30 per hour seasonal deputies. The season was defined as the Friday before Memorial Day through the Labor Day weekend.

The council voted unanimously for the increase and authorized the increase to be retroactive to May 25.

Hassel also asked that funds in an existing account be used to heighten security in the County Clerk’s office in the Court House and the County Building. Mike Delp, representing the Safety Committee spoke to what they are considering including, but not limited to window treatment film, caulking, panic door locks, and additional video cameras.

The upgrades are estimated to cost $37, 950. A portion of the upgrades would be paid from the Maintenance Department budget.
