Lions_Ralph BookerRalph E Booker, Director of the Marshall County Plan Commission presented to the Plymouth Lions Club an explanation of what the Plan Commission does, and discussed its 2017 annual report at the last meeting of the Club.  Booker has been Plan Director for Marshall County for the past 12 years.

The Marshall County Plan commission is responsible for the Marshall County Comprehensive Plan and its implementation through the County Zoning Ordinance, the Subdivision Control Ordinance and various other policies.  The Marshall County Plan Commission oversees and regulates by means of the County Comprehensive Plan the type, location and timing of development in the unincorporated areas of Marshall County.  The towns of Argos, Bourbon, Bremen, Culver and Plymouth all have their own plan commissions.

The Plan Commission is an advisory board to the Board of Commissioners.  The Plan Commission reviews development proposals for subdivisions, and re-zoning, amendments to the local zoning ordinance, PUD, as well as conducts comprehensive land use for the County.  In this role, the Plan Commission utilizes the help of the Technical Review Committee and Planning and Zoning staff.  There were 815 permits issued in 2017 the highest in the last 15 years.

In other business, dictionaries are currently being distributed to area third grade students.  St Michaels is on the agenda for distribution this week.  May 12th and September 29th are going to be honored as White Cane Days for this year’s fundraisers and members of the Plymouth Lions Club will be on hand to take donations at Walmart in Plymouth.  The Board also approved a motion to begin fundraising for a new refractor for our KidSight program.  Operation KidSight is an Indiana Lions program to prevent early problems from Amblopia (Lazy eye) which if not corrected before the child’s eye is fully developed may never be completely corrected without surgery.  There is no charge for this screening program and the Lions will provide a child with glasses if the parents cannot afford the cost of glasses.

Lions are about providing service but we are only as strong as those who so willingly join us in providing this service.  If you or anyone you know are interested in this program or any program sponsored by the Lions Club, please contact any Lions Club member.
