LakeMax_lakepatrolThe police patrol on Lake Maxinkuckee may be getting a boost in 2018.

Marshall County Sheriff Matt Hassel asked to increase the hourly pay for off-duty officer from $22 an hour up to $30 from the County Council last week.

Hassel said, “If we are so lucky to receive our marine grant from the DNR this year we would like to change the hourly rate for part-time to $30 an hour.  The reason is, we are trying to attract other law enforcement agency’s off-duty officers to come be part of the lake enforcement staff.”  Hassel said he thinks it will be more inviting with the higher hourly rate.

This pay increase is strictly for the Lake Enforcement.  Hassel said they would use the same amount of money that comes from the grant and the Lake Association that actually pays the bulk of the cost.

The sheriff is seeking $20,000 in the 2018 grant.  Last year he sought and was granted $15,000 in 2017.

If the DNR awards the marine grant to Sheriff Hassel, he will seek approval to his rate increase request from the county council at that time.
