As Indiana’s 2017 Stellar Community for Division II, Culver is hosting a “Stellarbation.” The event will now take place at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, November 8th. Members from Culver’s Stellar Committee, local and regional elected officials, administrative staff from state agencies, and honored guest Lieutenant Governor Suzanne Crouch will be in attendance at the Culver Park Beach Lodge, located at 819 East Lakeshore Drive.
The event is free and open to the public. State officials and Lieutenant Governor Crouch will present the Stellar Communities program to the audience, and Culver’s Stellar Committee will review the local efforts and projects under the Stellar Plan. Following the presentation, an open house will take place from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. where residents can ask questions and find out more information about Culver’s Stellar projects and light refreshments will be served.
The Stellar Communities Designation Program is a multi-agency partnership designed to recognize communities that adopt best practices and address issues related to population growth, attract private investment, increase educational attainment, and provide economic improvement in their communities.
Potential projects in Culver’s Stellar Project List include: Sand Hill Farms Housing, a workforce housing development project on West Jefferson Street; the Lake Maxinkuckee Bike and Pedestrian Trail; major renovations of Culver Park’s and our historic Beach Lodge on Lake Maxinkuckee; creating a western gateway signage when entering Culver on West Jefferson Street; improved bicycle and pedestrian connectivity with additional sidewalks and connecting trails; developing a new sports park at Culver Community Schools; and improving recreational access to and programming on Lake Maxinkuckee.
