Safe_Routes to SchoolThe Safe Routes to School Project for the city of Plymouth was bid and during Monday’s Board of Public Works and Safety meeting City Engineer Rick Gaul gave a brief update.

There were five companies that bid on the project and Northern Indiana Construction from Mishawaka was the low bidder at $306,635.67. Gaul noted that the bid was under the engineering estimate.   The city’s 25% share of the project will be $61,327.13.  The city engineer also said, “If we run into any extra expense that will fall on us to cover.”

The Safe Routes to School Project will improve walkability on Baker Street between Randolph and Riverside Intermediate School with new sidewalks, curbs and gutters.  The project will also remove the bollards at the intersection of Baker and Randolph.
