County news # 2The Marshall County Council considered a couple of larger additional appropriation requests during their meeting Monday.

Marshall County Sheriff Matt Hassel had a request for an additional $50,000 for the LED lighting upgrade project in the parking lot and repairs at the facility until the end of the year.

Gary Masterson from the Maintenance Department said the additional is being requested for anticipated additional repairs until the end of the year.  He said they have already used the $25,000 appropriated in the budget for this year with several unexpected issues including a frozen water-line froze in the lobby and the ceiling had to be repaired.  Repairs were also made to the ADA front door, AC in the kitchen and administration said had to be worked on and the 20 compressors on the roof are 10 year old.  They’ve replaced 4 so there are 16 compressors that could go out at any time.

Sheriff Hassel said the fund only has $343 in it.

The County Council unanimously approved the additional appropriation request of $50,000.

Marshall County Coroner John Grolich was approved for $27,000 in additional appropriations by the county council.  He said the budget he was given to work with was set lower than the year before and with an increase in death cases he is running short in several funds.

The coroner was granted $20,000 for autopsy expenses, $3,000 for toxicology, $2,000 for emergency deputies wages, $1,000 for morgue supplies and $1,000 for accessories to outfit his new vehicle.

The County maintenance department was granted $20,000 in additional appropriations for maintenance at Shady Rest.  The county acquired the responsibility of caring for the county home on August 1st.  The additional will be used the fire monitoring system, telephone system, security improvements, winterizing the building and general maintenance.
