4-H FairThe official start to the Marshall County 4-H Fair was Sunday afternoon at 4:30 with ceremonies in the main arena.

Rob Hurford, President of the 4-H Fairboard welcomed those in attendance and said, “We are looking forward to a good week at the fair.”

Chantel Poisel, President of the 4-H Council took time to mention the hundred volunteers who donate countless hours to make the Marshall County Fair the success it is.  She also said the 4Hers work so hard on their projects and she has witnessed many helping others when issues arise, commenting, “This embodies the spirit of 4-H.”

The ceremony moved into reorganization of 10 year members with the presentation of plaques.

4-H 10 year members 2017Ten year members include: Wyatt Amore, Kassie Dickey, Kaite Garland, Tanner Hoffman, Rebekah Johnson and Russel Temme from Union Township; Anna Barlow, Nathan Bollenbacher, Kyle Fishburn, Natalie Pask and Jared Thieling from Green Township; Francis Bottorff, Felicia Dixon, Aaron Harris, Victoria Leazenby and Matthew Roeder from Center Township;  Natasha Craft from West Township; Katie Hepler, Adam Stevens, Bryce Swihart and Rece Williamson from Broubon Township; Emily Kinney from North Township; Makayla Lindvall, Aaron Parker, Mattie Reese and Chelsea Tibbs from Polk Township; Bailey Nifong from Walnut Township and Chandler Snyder and Luke Snyder from German Township.

The 4-H Star Achievers were also announced last night. The Marshall County 4-H Star Achievers Contest is open to any 9-12th grade 4-H member. The contest is composed of an application including achievement points, an essay, and an interview.

The top 5 individuals were named “Marshall County 4-H Star Achievers” and will serve a 1 year term, spanning from opening ceremonies of the current year’s Marshall County 4-H Fair to opening ceremonies of the following year’s fair.

4-H Star Achievers 2017This year’s winners were Victoria Leazenby, a 10 year member of the Center Township Rocketeers 4-H Club.  Anna and Sarah Leeper, 8 year members of the German Township 4-H Club, Samantha Poisel, a 9 year member of the Green Township Senior Clodhoppers 4-H Club and Chelsea Tibbs, a 10 year members with the Polk Township 4-H Club.

The 4-H Star Achievers are expected to serve in a number of fair week capacities, including appearances at 4-H fair events, handing out of ribbons at 4-H Livestock shows, and assisting with buyer recognition at the 4-H Livestock Auction.
