Mac's Market_1A long-time LaPaz business sustained major damage during a fire Tuesday morning.

The Marshall County 911 Dispatch Center received a call at 4:47 a.m. from the McDonalds in LaPaz indicating they could see flames inside the building.

LaPaz Fire Chief Jon Knepp said, “When we arrived there was heavy smoke in the building and some fire visible through the window.  We used a transitional attack to cool the fire and then go in and extinguish it.”

The LaPaz Fire Department was on the scene for about 4 hours.  Damage was contained to the contents of the store, mostly smoke damage.  The structure only sustained smoke damage.

Mac's Market_2Mac’s Market owner, Ronnie McCartney said the insurance adjuster was expected to visit the grocery on Wednesday.  He said the damage was contained to the inside with lot of smoke damage including his entire inventory.

When asked if he will continue with operations of the store McCartney said there will be significant equipment to replace but at this point in the process he is looking at opening again as soon as possible.

Mac’s Market has been in operation in LaPaz for 54 years and in their current location at 2083 Michigan Road for the past 20 years.
