Microsurface_1The city’s microsurfacing street projects by Pavement Solutions are moving forward this week.

During Monday’s Board of Public Works and Safety meeting Street Superintendent Jim Marquardt said the base layer has been placed on Oak Hill Avenue between Michigan Street and the city limits to the west.  Oak Drive from Jefferson Street to State Road 17 had the base coat and crews were working to finish the base coat on Oak Drive from Jefferson Street to US 30.

Microsurface_2Marquardt told the board the contractor is concerned with tying up traffic during shift changes in the industrial park and informed him that they will be working from sun up to sun down to complete the project in this area as quickly as possible.

Pavement Solutions will also be microsurfacing Jefferson Street from Oak Drive to 5th Street.

Microsurfacing is a protective seal coat which extends the life of pavement. It is a thin, tough layer of asphalt emulsion blended with finely crushed stone for traction.

Microsurface_3This is a cost-effective method to renew the road surface and seal minor cracks and other irregularities. This preventive maintenance process protects the pavement from moisture penetration and oxidation.
