triton_financepark-2016Mrs. Vermillion’s 8th grade Junior Achievement students, from Triton Jr.-Sr. High School, took their budgeting skills to the Finance Park facility in Fort Wayne on Tuesday, December 13th, to participate in a realistic budget scenario.

Students are given unique family and income scenarios and must use that information to create a budget that meets their family’s needs. Students research budget categories at the various “shops” around the facility then create a budget on an iPad.

After the Triton students create their budget, they re-visit the stores to make their purchases using a fictional debit card. Oftentimes, the purchase price is higher than what was budgeted so students must make choices on wants after all needs are satisfied.

Triton Superintendent Donna Burroughs said, “A special thank you to Triton High School senior Adam Stevens for volunteering to chaperone students on this trip. Without his help the day would not have been successful!”
