The Marshall County Blueberry Festival unveiled the 2017 collector basket last week. In keeping with this year’s theme, “ Another Picnic in the Park” this year’s basket is a picnic basket.
A new new basket is made in 100% made in America, in Peterborough, New Hampshire, a town steeped in the history of basket making. The roots of the Peterboro Basket Company extend back to 1854, when children wove the first baskets on Depot Street.
The wood used in these handcrafted baskets is Appalachian white ash, the same wood baseball bats are made from.
This year’s picnic basket measures 18”L x 12”W x 8”H and is made of natural ash with a pair of blue leather accent stripes. The basket has two swing handles for easy toting with a removable blueberry cloth grip, vinyl gingham liner for easy clean up, a solid birch hinged lid and an engraved 50th anniversary brass plate on the front.
nly a limited number of collector baskets are available. This year’s Marshall County Blueberry Festival basket sells for $70. They are now available at the festival office at 233 East Jefferson Street in Plymouth. The supply at the festival this weekend will be limited.
