School Board Elections

According to the Marshall County Clerk’s office, the deadline to file for a school board seat was noon last Friday, August26.

In the Plymouth Community School Corporation the At-Large seat currently held by Larry Holloway is up for election. Holloway is seeking another term and will be challenged by Richard D. Cartwright, former Plymouth teacher and coach Corey Duncan, Geoffrey Payne, and former Plymouth teacher Geoffrey D. Scarberry.

Also up in the fall election is the District 2 seat held by Todd Samuelson. The District 2 area is primarily West Township. No one filed to challenge Samuelson in November.

The District 3 seat is currently held by Jennifer Sickmiller. Sickmiller is not seeking reelection due to the fact that she is moving out of the district she represents. In fact, it is anticipated that she will resign her seat on the Plymouth School board in October. The school board will have 30 days to fill the vacancy. No one filed for the District 3 seat for the November election so the school board will accept candidates in December to fill the seat for 2017.

The Bremen Public Schools have District 1, 2 and 3 or the At large seats open and not one incumbent is seeking reelection. It appears recent controversy has caused the incumbents to not seek another term. Both Brian Teall and Clarence Mark are seeking the District 1 seat while the only candidate for District 2 is Suzanne Ginter. The At-Large seat will be challenged by Jesse Bohannon, Hope Jordan, and Andrew Porter.

The Culver Community School Corporation has the At-Large “A” position open as well at Districts 1, 2 and 5. Theresa Thompson has filed for the District 1 seat at Culver while Mark Maes filed for District 2 and Marina Cavazos for the District 5 seat. Kenneth VanDeputtee will seek the At-Large “A” seat.

John Glenn School Corporation has seats open for Lincoln, Johnson, Liberty and Polk Townships. Candidates interested in running for the John Glenn School board are Robert Borlik in Lincoln Township, Christian Mattix for Liberty Township and Curt Pletcher for Polk Township. No one filed for the Johnson Township seat.

Over at the Triton School Corporation the school board has the At-Large seat and District 3 seat open for the general election. Incumbent Amy Middaugh the current board president is seeking the District 3 seat and incumbent Kevin Boyer and current board vice-president is seeking the At-Large seat.

And finally the Union-North School Corporation had an At-Large seat, North Township seat and Union Township seat. Incumbent Daniel Zeiger is seeking reelection to the At Large seat without a challenger. Thomas Smith wants to fill the North Township seat while Dennis Graf and Arden Balmer will battle it out for the Union Township seat.
