Two local elementary schools have been awarded a State Robotics Grant and will be starting an elementary VEX IQ robotics team during the 2016-2017 school year.

Triton Elementary and Argos Elementary have both received a robotics start-up grant to cover the cost of a VEX IQ starter robotics kit, VEX IQ competition parts, VEX IQ team registration, professional development, VEX curriculum, and Project Lead The Way classroom projects and parts from the TechPoint Foundation for Youth.

The objective of the grant is to provide a hands-on science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) learning experience to every Indiana elementary school by utilizing an economical, entry level robotics platform, for students both in and out of the classroom.

Jenny Mevis, Triton Elementary School fourth grade teacher, completed the grant application and was awarded the grant. Mrs. Mevis will be the teacher leading this program at Triton Elementary School.

Carrie Edison received the grant for Argos Elementary and will be the teacher leading the program next year.
