Heard, a third baseman and catcher, will begin her fourth year on varsity this season. She was a member of the 2014 run for the Trojans that ended up in the Final Four and was named the Mental Attitude Award winner for New Castle in both 2014 and 2015. Heard is a .295 career hitter for the Trojans with a .380 on base percentage and a .429 slugging percentage, while amassing 61 hits and 50 RBI in 78 games played. In travel ball with the Hoosier Heat, she has been 2015 Northeast National Champions, 2014 NSA Northern State and Southern State Runner-Up, appeared in the Virginia World Series twice (2013 & 2014), 2013 Monster Mash Smash Champions, and just recently won the 2016 USFA Winter Tournament. In 2014 Heard was named the THMSA Tournament MVP. Academically, she has been named to the honor roll, has received perfect attendance awards, was named Renaissance Student of the Week in 2013, and name Renaissance Student of the Month in 2012.

When asked what made Ancilla the right choice for her, Heard mentioned the three visits to campus that made her feel more comfortable.

“I am excited that Destiny has decided to become a part of the Ancilla softball family,” began Ancilla coach Scott Reese. “She is a tremendous hitter who has some pop at the plate and can also hit for average. I am also impressed with her soft hands and strong throws from third base. I am looking forward to seeing her development during her two years here.”

Destiny is the daughter of Gary and Melanie Heard and is planning on pursuing degrees in Criminal Justice and Secondary Education while at Ancilla.
