Prevent Child Abuse INdianaMore than 2 dozen citizens attended the organizational meeting of Prevent Child Abuse of Marshall County Wednesday evening in the Plymouth Library.

Initial decisions in how to create the Marshall County Council were made.  Although initially they will operate under the non-profit umbrella of CASA of Marshall County attendees felt obtaining their own non-profit status was key.

Haley Kittrell, Director of CASA said, local attorney Adam Lukenbill has offered to assist in securing the 501 C3 status for the group.  Until Prevent Child Abuse of Marshall County attains their own non-profit status they will operate as an advisory board instead of a council.

Marshall County Prosecutor Nelson Chipman attended the meeting and had previously agreed to pay the chartering expenses for the organizations.

At the next meeting on December 2nd at 5 p.m. in the Plymouth Library the group will vote on officers.  Currently they are asking anyone interested in serving as an officer to provide a short biography before the meeting.  The group is also looking for citizens interested in serving on the board of directors.

Other discussions included requiring background checks and the signing of an ethics contract.  It was discussed having the Board of Directors and anyone who will provide training have a background check.   Some suggested requiring all board members have a background check.   Kittrell said the ethics contract everyone would sign makes sure that everything coming out of the Marshall County Council fits with the mission of Prevent Child Abuse Indiana which is primary prevention.

The next meeting of Prevent Child Abuse Marshall County will be on Wednesday, December 2nd at 5 p.m. in the Plymouth Public Library.  New participants are welcome to attend.
