On Friday September 18, at 2:31 p.m., the Plymouth Police Department was dispatched to Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center in Plymouth regarding suspicious injuries to a two year old female that was unconscious with a serious head injury.
The mother had transported the child to the hospital. Older injuries were also present on the body of the victim. Due to the critical condition of the child, she was flown by helicopter to Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.
Investigation by a detective with the Plymouth Police Department revealed that the head injury had occurred earlier in the morning of September 18. Shane Weedling had been caring for the child at that time.
Shane Weedling was located at his residence and had possession of suspected marijuana at that time. Mr. Weedling was interviewed at the Plymouth Police Department and then arrested and booked at the Marshall County Jail regarding Neglect of a Dependent as a Level 3 Felony and Possession of Marijuana as a Level 6 Felony. Bond was set at $10,000.00 cash.
On the evening of September 19 the child died at Lutheran Hospital. An autopsy and further investigation is pending.
