Menominee_sacagoweiaThe Menominee Elementary third grade enrichment group put on a “Living Museum” Monday in the schools’ gymnasium.  In all, 18 students are involved in the enrichment group.   Each student had the opportunity to pick an influential person who has shaped history, learn about the person and then fully become the person they picked for the hands-on Living Museum school-wide lesson.

Menominee_TigerWoodsThroughout the day the 18 students spoke to hundreds of Menominee Elementary School students in grades one through four, as well as community guest ­ including some of their family members.

Menominee_pocahontasLexxi Snyder a 9 ­year ­old 3rd grader in Mrs. Stettler’s class was Pocahontas!  Students who stopped by for a visit learned Pocahontas was born around the year 1596 and named “Amonute,” but was called “Pocahontas” as a nickname, which meant “playful one.”

Menominee_MiaThird grade student Mackenzie Himes is Mariel Margaret “Mia” Hamm­ Garciaparra, a retired American professional soccer player. Hamm played many years as a forward for the United States women’s national soccer team and was a founding member of the Washington Freedom.  Himes did not break her character while speaking to her grandparents, Sharon DaughertyHimes, and Jim Himes who stopped by the Living Museum during the two and a half hour morning session.
