mugshot_ReyesTuesday morning Rigoberto Calix-Reyes appeared before Marshall Superior Court I Judge Robert Bowen for his initial hearing.  The proceedings were conducted using the county’s video conferencing equipment allowing Reyes to remain securely locked in the county jail.

During the arraignment it was found the Reyes was indigent so Judge Bowen appointed Tom A. Black as his council.

Reyes is currently being held in the Marshall County Jail on a $100,000 cash bond with one count of sexual misconduct with a minor as a level 4 felony, one count of forgery as a level 6 felony and one count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor as a class A misdemeanor.  Charges stem from an incident last month where Reyes is alleged to have taken his 14 year old girl friend on a road trip which ended in Texas when authorities were able to locate them at a relative’s home.  He is also alleged to have forged his Honduras birth certificate making it appear that he was 18 instead of 21 so he would be eligible to be enrolled in high school.  The probable cause affidavit also indicates that Reyes engaged in sexual contact with the female.

Judge Bowen entered a not guilty plea for Reyes.

A pretrial conference was set for April 19th and the omnibus date was set for June 25th with his trial scheduled for January 26, 2016.
