Graduation Rates

Focusing on helping Hoosier students graduate from high school has seemingly paid off. According to a release by the IDOE (Indiana Department of Education) on Wednesday, the graduation rate for the 2013-2014 school year jumped to 89.8 percent, up from 88.6 percent the year before.

According to the release Indiana’s non-waiver graduation rate was 83.4 percent, up from 81.7 percent the previous year.

Superintendent of Public Instruction, Glenda Ritz, said, “I want to thank Indiana’s students, educators and families for their continued hard work. Because of their efforts and the outreach efforts of the Department of Education, more children are graduating from high school and preparing themselves for college and career.” “Today’s news is yet another sign of the great work happening every day in schools throughout Indiana.” she added.

Indiana Code (20-26-13-12) “provides that the IDOE shall calculate , for each public and accredited nonpublic school, an estimated graduation rate that is determined by the total number of graduates for a particular year divided by the number of students enrolled in Grade 9 at the schools three years before that year,”

The non-waiver graduation rate “excludes those graduates who received a diploma with a waiver and have not met the basic expectation that all students pass the state’s Graduation Examination before existing high school with a diploma.”
