Doc Bowen BookIn 2014 the Bremen Town Council declared February 26th to be known as “Doc Bowen Day” in memory of the late Dr. Otis R. Bowen’s birthday.

Residents of Bremen have been encouraged to purchase a pair of black-rimmed glasses for $2.00, a signature of Doc Bowen and wear them this week to show their love and respect for this icon from Marshall County.

Doc Bowen Day 2015Bowen was a hometown doctor from more than 25 year and served the county a coroner.  He was Governor of Indiana from 1973 until 1981 and served under President Ronald Reagan from 1985 to 1998 as the Secretary of Health and Human Services.

Bremen Community Cares joined the celebration by making it possible to have flags flown in the downtown area as a tribute and coordinated a coloring showcase for elementary students.  They also work with the Kiwanis Club sponsoring the long-time Bowen Free Throw award for the 2015 Boys and Girls Bremen Lions basketball season. This project helps fund community beautification projects and events in the Town of Bremen.
