Snow_removal_3With all the snow that was dropped this weekend citizens are reminded of the Plymouth city ordinance on sidewalk clearing.  It is the duty of every owner, lessee or occupant of any premises with sidewalk to remove all snow and ice from said sidewalk within 24 hours after a snow and or ice event.

If the property owner fails to remove the snow or ice from their sidewalks the city can have it removed and place a lien on the property.

Mailman in snowThe postal service will deliver your mail in all types of weather conditions but if the mailperson doesn’t feel save approaching your mail box because of snow or ice they don’t have to deliver your mail.  Even though many mail delivery people walk through the yard you need to shovel and salt the sidewalk and steps if necessary.  In the county you need to have your mail boxes plowed out so the driver can get to your box without getting stuck in the snow.

FireHydrantSnow2Another consideration for citizens are fire hydrants.  If there is a fire hydrant near your home or business, please be responsible and remove the snow from around it in case of an emergency firefighters can easily locate the hydrant. Precious time could be wasted if firefighters have to search for and dig out a hydrant to connect to water.
