Turn Plymouth PInkMayor Mark Senter, by proclamation has proclaimed this Friday, October 17th at Turn Plymouth Pink Day in honor of all the heroes who have fought the breast cancer fight.

In the proclamation Mayor Senter noted, “Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women in the United States, other than skin cancer, and the chance of a woman having invasive breast cancer some time during her life is a little less than 1 in 8. The chance of dying from breast cancer is 1 in 35.

The National Cancer Institute estimates in the United States more than 200,000 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year and more than 40,000 people will die. Research has shown that taking advantage of early detection methods such as mammography and clinical breast exams could help drop the cancer rate by as much as 30 percent.

Senter said, “The Oliver Family’s Ounce of Prevention campaign has been a champion in the fight of Breast Cancer in our community. Their battle against this illness is truly appreciated.”

The Mayor of Plymouth closed by saying, “I encourage all residents to help raise awareness about breast cancer by supporting this proclamation and wearing pink.”
