Monday night bids were open for the project to replace the original lights at Nixon Field. Michiana Contracting of Plymouth was the lone bidder for the project. Their base bid to replace all the lights and poles was $188,335. There were several alternates to consider. Alternate number one adds a 25 year warranty and a remote control package to manage the lights from a phone or computer for $8,500.Alternate number two was the remote control package that was included in alternate one and there was no bid. Alternate number three is security lighting for $1,200 while alternate number four is the addition of exterior electrical outlets for $1,460. The final alternate is the remote light switcher if alternate number one is not selected for $1,560.

Park superintendent Mike Hite said they originally had budgeted $198,000 in the line item this year but $2,600 has already been expended for soil borings leaving a balance of $194,248.

Selecting the warranty with the remote control package is $196,835. Hite explained the warranty includes replacement of light bulbs when they burn out during the 25 year warranty period although he noted the park would be responsible to replace fuses if they blow.

The Plymouth Park Board approved the base bid with alternate number one subject to Superintendent Hite being able to find the needed funds to transfer into the Nixon Field lighting project line item.
