04/15/14 All that smoke in the sky out near Wal-Mart on Friday was from a controlled burn.
Pioneer Hi-Bred International at 2300 Pioneer Drive requested and was granted a controlled burn permit from the Indiana Department of Environmental Management.
The burn was for the 31 acre Pioneer Wetland Restoration Site between the facility structures and the railroad. As part of the restoration and maintenance of the native vegetation site the cool season grasses and forbs were burned on Friday.
Pioneer Seed had to have staff in attendance at the burn at all times along with adequate firefighting equipment on-site during the burn.
