05/17/12 The top community college golfers from across the United States will be coming to Swan Lake Resort in Plymouth next week for the National Junior College Athletic Association Men’s Division II Golf Championship.

Over 110 of the nation’s best junior college golfers from a total of 43 teams will be competing in the event. Ancilla College is hosting the NJCAA finals this year and again in 2014. Practice rounds begin on Sunday, May 20th and continue through Monday. Round one action begins on Tuesday, May 22nd at 7:00 AM and will conclude on Friday with round four.

Ancilla College Athletic Director Gene Reese says this is a great event for Ancilla and the community.

“What tremendous national exposure for Ancilla College. What a great honor and opportunity to host a national junior college tournament. Plus we have an ideal venue with Swan Lake. We are excited for May 21st to arrive. This is huge! The best junior college golfers from all over the United States will be at Swan Lake next week. Will we see a future PGA player like Bubba Watson? I would recommend if you love golf to take the time to come out and watch this tournament.”

Ancilla head golf coach Mark Hayden added, “It is an honor to be the host College and host coach for the NJCAA DII Golf Championship.   I look forward to an exciting week.  Working with Geoff Payne (Swan Lake’s General Manager) and Chad Hutsell, the PGA Pro, will be a great learning experience.”

Swan Lake Resort golf pro Chad Hutsell said pairing with Ancilla College is a great partnership.  “Swan Lake Resort is pleased and honored to host the NJCAA National championship. Working with Ancilla College to bring the championship to Plymouth and Swan Lake Resort has been a real pleasure.”

The public is invited to watch all four rounds. A four day spectator pass is available for $40.00 while single day passes are selling for $15.00. Tickets are available at Swan Lake Resort starting on the first round of play on Tuesday.

On Monday afternoon, the Ancilla College Athletic Department will be taking up to 50 visiting golfers on a tour of the nearby University of Notre Dame campus. Some of the sites on the tour include the Notre Dame football stadium, the JACC, and the Grotto.

Ancilla College is located only three miles from Swan Lake in Donaldson, Indiana. Ancilla, celebrating its 75th anniversary this year, is a Catholic, two-year, co-educational, liberal arts college sponsored by the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ. Ancilla College offers over a dozen degree programs and both women’s and men’s sports.
