05/03/12 On Saturday, April 28 the Indiana State Police participated in the fourth nationwide “Prescription Drug Take Back” initiative sponsored by the Drug Enforcement Administration.  The initiative seeks to prevent prescription drug abuse and theft.

Collection sites were set up nationwide for expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs that could be turned in for destruction.  The Indiana State Police set up collection sites at every post, except the Toll Road.  Locally the Bremen Post collected approximately 150 pounds of medications.

Statewide the state police collected more than 1,500 pounds of unused or expired medications.  During the previous Drug Take Back held on October 29th, 2011, a little more than 1,800 pounds of medications were collected by the state police.
