NEWBURGH, INDIANA –The Ancilla College volleyball team has improved their upcoming recruiting class with the addition of Mieka Wagner from Castle High School.  This dynamic volleyball player will join the Chargers as a defensive specialist and an outside hitter starting in the 2012-13 season.

“Coach Pickerell and I noticed Mieka within minutes of arriving at the Team Indiana Showcase in early December,” started Ancilla coach Lana Singleton. “This kid is a sparkplug. She jumps well, hustles and has a great, bubbly personality. She will be a great addition to our Lady Charger Volleyball Program.”

Castle High School coach Dan Watson was very complimentary of Wagner, as well. “She has a big heart, is bubbly, and has a great vertical. If I could, I would have a team full of Miekas.”

Wagner finished her senior season with 332 digs and 154 kills. She was the team captain and a past recipient of the Mental Attitude Award. Wagner plays Club Volleyball for River City. Mieka also plays softball for Castle High School, and has played travel softball many years. Off the court, Wagner has been involved in Pep Club, German Club, Teen Power, Young Life Club, Peer Tutor Club, Buddy Ball and Race for a Cure. Wagner has also volunteered her time with the humane society, Vann Park softball fields, food drives, and has been a coach for volleyball camps.

Wagner plans on studying health science and nursing while at Ancilla College.

“I decided on Ancilla because the girls were really amazing,” said Wagner. “The coach is completely dedicated and they have my major.”

Wagner is the daughter of Billy and Elisha Wagner.
