10/20/11 A mid-November completion of the Oak Road project seems to be still on track, but the contractors are still facing some challenges. Plymouth City Engineer Rick Gaul presented new change orders concerning the project to the Redevelopment Commission Tuesday night.
On a high note,Gaulexplained that a reduction in costs in the amount of $586.10 was brought about by savings on pavement markers.
However, the other change orders brought with them additional costs. An inclusion of a new $700 culvert and installation at the corner of U.S. 30 andOak Roadwas needed after crews discovered a pipe that runs under the highway. A drainage problem on the west side of the Kmart parking lot prompted the construction of a slotted drain pipe to avoid having standing water added $20,128.00 to the overall project. The cost to the city will fall under the 80/20 split with the state.
The construction of a curb wall on the west side of the Bob Evan’s property is needed since the slope of the property alongOak Roadcould make mowing and other maintenance difficult if left as a grassy area.Gaulexplained that originally the plans called for gaining a right-of-way that would have meant going in some 10 feet into the parking lot and taking several parking places away from the business. With modifications, the business will only loose two or three parking places. The cost of the curb wall will be approximately $15,665.30; however, it will also fall within the 80/20 split.
