10/18/11 Plymouth High School Assistant Principal, Andrew Hartley, has been chosen by the Indiana Association of School Principals (IASP) as the 2011 Assistant Principal from IASP District 2.

Hartley has been a school administrator for six years, with three of those being at PHS. He was a classroom teacher for five years.

The official award will be presented to Hartley on November 20 in Indianapolis.

According to PHS Principal, Jim Condon, Hartley has a number of responsibilities   including the development of the master schedule; coordination of the school’s special needs program; overseeing standardized testing; serving as the schools’ safety specialist; and facilitating the textbook adoption process. Condon said, “In addition, Andy also co-chairs our Professional Learning Community program which focuses on teaching to mastery, disaggregating student achievement data, and using that data to develop plans for reteaching and retesting until mastery is attained.”

Condon said that perhaps the greatest skill that can be attributed to Hartley is his ability to connect with people.

Hartley is well-known for his patience with and guidance of students. Former PHS student Jessie Strykul said, “I will always think of myself as his (Hartley) biggest success story.”

Daniel Tyree, Plymouth Schools superintendent said, “Andrew (Hartley) has all of the talent we want from an administrator, but we cannot teach. He is a hard worker, honest, and respected by those he supervises.” Tyree added, “While very soft-spoken, Andrew is able to complete complex tasks in a dynamic manner.”

Arthur Jacobs, who has a daughter enrolled at PHS, said, “Andrew is an exceptional leader with a strong passion for student safety and success.”

Hartley was chosen by committee of his peers. District 2 covers the counties of Elkhart, Fulton, Kosciusko, LaPorte, Marshall, Pulaski, St. Joseph, and Starke.

One principal is honored from each of the 12 districts.
