06/01/11  Country Auto Center had their first drawing and Car Giveaway for local High School Seniors who earned A’s on their report cards for the year. Mayor, Mark Senter and his “Mayor for the day”, Garrett Garver came to Country Auto to draw the winning entry on May 24, 2011. The Lucky Senior was Duane Spencer of Argos High School.

Joe & Jennifer Martin, owners of Country Auto Center were looking for a way to motivate and reward seniors for their hard work and effort in the classroom. “We came up with a budget for a nice pre-owned vehicle and went to the local area public high schools in Marshall County to present our idea,” stated Joe Martin Jr., “the principals and superintendants were very excited about the program.” How the program works, high school seniors bring in their report cards to Country Auto Center, the student receives one entry for each A that is on the report card.

Country took flyers to the area schools at the beginning of the year and explained the program. The local schools Argos High School, Bremen High School, Culver Community High School, Plymouth High School and Triton High School held meetings and passed out the flyers to the Senior Class.

“We had a total of 1,215 ‘A’ entries this year, stated Joe Martin Jr. “I was pleased with this being our first year of the program, and look forward to getting more students involved next year. We hope that students will see that their hard work pays off now and in the future for them.”

The first Winner of Country Auto Centers Wheels for A’s  is Duane Spencer, a senior at Argos High School. Duane was shocked and excited to receive the keys. “I never thought I would be lucky enough to win the vehicle”, stated Duane. He had ironically been shopping for a car for the past month.

Duane will be attending Vincennes University where he will study conservation with future plans to become a Conservation Officer. Duane was on the Argos Soccer team and was also given the Principals Award. Other interests include hunting and fishing. After receiving the keys, his classmates were ready to jump in the car and go for a ride. Duane won a 2009 Chevy Aveo which Country Auto had certified so it has a full warranty. The car, certification, and taxes is valued at $11,000.
