05/13/11 The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) will close Pierce Road from U.S. 31 to just east of Kenilworth Road beginning Monday, May 16. Crews will begin work to upgrade the road as part of the New U.S. 31 Project. When the new highway opens to traffic, that section of Pierce Road will become State Road 4.

Pierce Road is scheduled to be closed until the end of October, however, homeowners will have access to their driveways, and Kenilworth Road will be open to northbound and southbound traffic.

Indiana State Police will also begin dedicated patrols along U.S. 31 through the construction zone between Madison Road and Roosevelt Road. The speed limit in that area was reduced to 35 miles per hour in late March. Trucks are entering and leaving the area, delivering materials for construction of the new bridge and new travel lanes for the U.S. 31 project.

INDOT reminds drivers to use caution and consider worker safety when driving through a construction zone. For the latest news and information about INDOT, visit www.in.gov/indot or www.trafficwise.IN.gov.  Contact the LaPorte District toll free at 1-855-GO-INDOT.
