12/21/10 Members of the Ancilla College volleyball and softball teams recently took time out of their schedules to volunteer at the St. Michael’s Family Night at St. Michael’s Catholic School in Plymouth.

Organized through coordination efforts by Oliver Ford vice president Jennifer Houin, the student-athletes assisted with various crafts and sports activities at the event.  They helped decorate and paint ornaments and assisted children in making advent wreaths and beaded bracelets, throwing footballs into a target, and showing them how to play various games such as “Plinko”, “Penny Pitch”, and “Lollipop pulls”, just to name a few.

“I would like to thank each and every student-athlete from Ancilla’s volleyball and softball teams,” said Houin.  “St. Michael’s could not have done it without the help of each one of those girls.  Everyone one of those girls dug in and took responsibility and went to work.

“We love the new bond we have made between St. Michael’s Catholic School and Ancilla College and look forward to many more events with them.”

Ancilla softball coach Scott Reese believed the opportunity to help at the event was too good to pass up.

“When I heard of the need, I thought it was an excellent opportunity for my team to help in the community,” said Reese.  “Even with it being a weekend event, the girls jumped right on board and were excited to help.”

Ancilla volleyball coach Lana Singleton echoed those sentiments.

“My volleyball team enjoyed the opportunity to help out at the St. Michael’s Family Night,” said Singleton.  “Many of the volleyball players are education majors and they are always looking forward to working with young people.  We want to thank Jennifer Houin for allowing our girls the opportunity to help out on this fun and joyous occasion.”

In addition to offering her thanks to members of both teams, Houin also made special mention of Ancilla College President Dr. Ron May, Todd Zeltwanger, and Sr. Nora Hahn, PHJC, for their support of the event.

Ancilla College is a Catholic, two-year, co-educational, liberal arts college in Donaldson, Indiana sponsored by the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ.
