Citizens Urged to take advantage of Nixle

09/06/11 The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department and Marshall County Emergency Management would like to remind everyone of a free service used to distribute information to the citizens of Marshall County.   Nixle.Com is used by the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office, Marshall County EMA, Argos Police Department, Bourbon Police Department, Bourbon Fire Department, Bremen PoliceDepartment, Bremen Fire Department, Bremen EMS, Bremen Town Utilities, Culver Police Department, Culver Fire Department, Lapaz Fire Department, Lapaz Police Department, Plymouth Fire and EMS and the Plymouth Police Department. This service is used in conjunction with other warning methods such as warning sirens, NOAA All-Hazards warning radios and local news media. is a secured website service for municipal agencies to release information to the public.  Citizens interested in receiving information released on may choose to receive the information in the form of a text message on their cell phone, an email message or may read it on the webpage.   Citizens will need to sign up for the service by simply going to and following the prompts on the website.  *NEW* Now you may also sign up for service by texting “NIXLEMCPD” to 888777. *NEW*

Citizens can specify the level of importance of the messages they want to receive from the system.    These messages can range from important alerts to general community information.    Some examples of messages that may be sent are evacuation notices, missing persons, water boil notices, traffic hazzards, neighborhood watch information, hazardous weather information, or general safety notices.   Citizens may choose to receive notices for multiple locations including their home, work or other places they may frequent. 

The participating agencies encourage all residents to take the opportunity to sign up for this service.   While does not charge for this service, standard text messaging rates may still apply.   Contact your cell phone carrier for more information on text messaging charges.
