04/19/12 The Indiana State Historic Records Advisory Board (SHRAB) on Tuesday awarded the 2012 SHRAB Governor’s Award to Linda Rippy of the Marshall County Historical Society Museum. After reviewing nominations, the SHRAB chose Rippy as the 2012 recipient based on her pivotal role in building the Marshall County Museum into the vital and strong cultural resource that it is today.
With the Board of Trustees vision in mind, Rippy’s implementation of proposed plans has had an impactful effect on the Museum. “On behalf of the Board of Trustees we congratulate Linda on her recognition,” said Dr. Ronald Liechty, President of the Board.
Encompassing three storefronts and two floors in downtown Plymouth, the Marshall County Museum sees approximately 6,000 visitors annually, not including annual visits from local second and fourth-grade students. Museum exhibits have illustrated Marshall County’s position in the development of automobile transportation and military service. The Museum also features a bus ticketing station and a large model train that runs weekly.
“Linda Rippy’s contributions to Marshall County have enabled thousands of local residents to discover and appreciate their local history,” said Jim Corridan, State Coordinator of Indiana SHRAB and Indiana State Archivist. “She has enhanced her community through developing cultural resources that benefit current and future generations of Hoosiers.”
The SHRAB Governor’s Award was created in 2006 to keep with SHRAB’s mission to identify potential problems, establish collaborative initiatives, and offer solutions to enhance the preservation, accessibility, and recognition of Indiana’s valuable historic records.
