October 1, 2014

Indiana_INTERNnetRegional and statewide entities are joining forces to highlight to Northwest Indiana employers how establishing an internship program can help fulfill their workforce needs.

Ancilla College, Calumet College, Saint Joseph’s College and Valparaiso University, along with the Center of Workforce Innovations, are partnering with Indiana INTERNnet, the internship-matching program managed by the Indiana Chamber of Commerce.

The group’s effort includes three separate events in Northwest Indiana, locally the seminar will be October 10th at Ancilla College, in the Lindenwood Retreat and Conference Center, in Donaldson, from 8:15 to 9:30 a.m.

“Our goal is for employers to attend one of the meetings and come away with how an internship initiative will benefit their companies, the students attending the schools in their region and the overall workforce of the region,” says Indiana INTERNnet Executive Director Janet Boston.

At the events, Boston will demonstrate how to use Indiana INTERNnet – a free online searchable database – to easily connect with qualified candidates.

The keynote presenter is Jennifer Fisher, a training and recruitment specialist with Group Dekko, who will share her personal experience with interns and explain the return on investment that a meaningful internship can provide to any size business.

In addition, Amanda Stanley, director of program relationships for the Indiana Commission for Higher Education, will outline EARN Indiana, a program that can help employers fund paid internships with qualifying students. EARN Indiana provides up to 50% matching funds to employers with approved internships who hire students offered state financial aid. The Indiana INTERNnet web site, www.indianaintern.net, facilitates these approvals and matches.

Open to all Northwest Indiana employers, the three events are free and include a continental breakfast or lunch.
