Will the County Health Department Move?

November 20, 2014

County Building_2It appears that the County Building is getting a bit too crowded.

Tuesday night Wes Burden from the County Health Department told his board that a commissioner and two county council members came to his office and said the prosecutor’s office needs more room and the logical expansion would be to move over to the offices currently housing the Health Department.

Burden was just giving his board a heads up. He said, “It sounds like the Health Department will be moved someplace else although nothing has been set in stone yet.”

There is room in the Community Resource Center but it’s in the basement and there are no windows. Board Secretary and Health Department employee Cathy Hamond said, “We work too closely with these offices here. Why would we want to move off-site?”

County Council liaison Judy Stone was at the Board of Health meeting and said, “It’s just getting tossed around. If we did this, this would happen. If we did that, this would happen.” She continued, “We are trying to find a way to solve a problem.” Stone did confirm that the move would be a commissioner decision. She said they didn’t want to blindside anyone and felt it would be better to talk to the department heads and see what their thoughts were.

Burden said it has given him time to look at their needs and one thing they would need is a generator for the vaccine refrigerators.

Stone said, “There are a lot of parameters to take into consideration.” She commented that they have also considered moving the Purdue Extension to the fairgrounds in Argos.
