Schultz Dies in Farming Accident

farm-fatalSaint Joseph County Deputy Coroner Nancy Pemberton said Wednesday, “We will never know the circumstances in how a tractor pulling a round-hay-bailer ran over and killed 87 year old Robert W. Schultz of Plymouth.
FarmingAccident_2On Monday, June 30th, about 5:30 in the evening the Marshall County 9-1-1 Center received a call of a man being run over by a hay-bailer. Plymouth Police and Fire responded to a hay field located immediately to the north of the Tall Oaks Subdivision.
FarmingAccident_1Mr. Schultz was located on the ground and had sustained injuries to his entire body. He was airlifted from the scene to Memorial Hospital in South Bend where he died about 8:30 that evening.
Pemberton said the cause of death was blunt force trauma from the tractor and bailer running over Mr. Schultz. She said they were unable to determine if he had a medical issue that caused him to fall off the tractor or if he may have gotten of the tractor to check on something and it ran over him.
Visitation and funeral services for Robert Schultz will be at the Van Gilder Funeral Home in Plymouth. Visitation will be Monday afternoon from 4 until 8 with his funeral at 11:30 on Tuesday. Burial will be in the Salem Cemetery at Salem Heights
