Plymouth Woman Airlifted from Crash on US 31 near Peru

   06/25/12 A Plymouth woman was critically injured in a two vehicle accident on US 31 near Peru on Friday afternoon.

22 year old Elizabeth Hoffer was traveling southbound on US 31, south of Business 31 in a 2001 Ford Escape when she failed to slow for a 2001 Volvo semi who had just taken-off from a traffic light.  Her vehicle struck the read of the semi causing extensive damage to the car.

29 year old Brandon Howard from South Bend was a passenger in the car and had to be extricated from the vehicle.  ISP say both Hoffer and Howard were airlifted from the scene to Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne with serious injuries.

The driver of the semi was not injured.

US 31 was closed for nearly two hours for officers to investigate the crash scene and for clean-up.
