CollinsHaley Kittrell, Executive Director of CASA of Marshall County announced Geniene Collins as the May CASA Volunteer of the Month.

Kittell said, “Geniene has had a case for a few years that has seen its ups and downs.  Along with that has come some frustrations and Geniene is a rock!”   She’s a voice of reason, a calm in the face of a storm, a constant in a case full of chaos, and always an advocate for the kids!

Geniene Collins has been a CASA Volunteer since April of 2009 and has advocated for over ten children.  She always offers to help with training new volunteers and aside from being a passionate volunteer, she has a great sense of humor!  Kittrell said, “I often ask her to play the part of a somewhat uncooperative character during a mock interview for our incoming training class of volunteers and she does a phenomenal job every time!”

No matter what happens in her case or in the court system, her first question always is “what does this mean for the kids?”  She excels at observations- both of situations and of people.  This is especially important when making fact-based recommendations to the court as to the child’s best interest.

Kittrell said, “Geniene has gone and continues to go above and beyond for the kids on her caseload.  CASA of Marshall County is fortunate to have her.

CASA of Marshall County currently has 42 active volunteers.  There is no waiting list for children to be appointed either a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) volunteer or a Guardian ad Litem by the court, which is great news as there were 4,043 children on the waiting list in Indiana at the end of 2014!
