NASHVILLE, Ind.,-Nashville, Indiana has been nationally recognized as one of America’s best small towns, securing a spot on Smithsonian Magazine’s “20 Best Small Towns 2015” list. The magazine published its ever-popular list on April 16, with Indiana’s very own Nashville making the cut.
Highlighting Nashville’s lush landscape, arts heritage, and festive environment, Smithsonian Magazine selected Nashville for its one-of-a-kind atmosphere and history. Deemed a ‘bucolic, woodsy paradise for country music fans and art lovers alike,’ Smithsonian Magazine gives nod to the Bill Monroe Bean Blossom Bluegrass Festival, the Brown County Art Gallery, historic homes, handmade treasures and fall colors at the Brown County State Park.
This is the fourth year that the magazine has published the list, collaborating with geographical information company Esri to sort the country’s small towns (population less than 20,000) according to their number of cultural attractions, historical sites, nature opportunities, eating establishments and other factors. Once sorted, Smithsonian Magazine researched to find towns commemorating milestones in 2015 such as anniversaries, openings, renovations and recoveries, narrowing down the list to the top 20.
“We are very honored and proud to be named one of the best small towns in the country,” says Jane Ellis, Executive Director at the Brown County Convention and Visitors Bureau. “People around here know how great of a place Nashville is, but this helps spread the word on a national level that our town truly is some place unique and special.”
Ellis encourages everyone to visit, “Hopefully this list will inspire everyone to come experience Nashville for themselves. Whether it is one of your favorite places to visit, a place you haven’t been to in a while or a destination you have never seen, Nashville is definitely worth checking out. Art, music, outdoor adventure and nearly 40 festivals year round—there really is something for everyone to enjoy here.”
