Local NewsOn January 14th Marshall Superior Court I Judge, Robert Bowen charged Lane Dodson with Intimidation with a Deadly Weapon, a Level 5 felony and two counts of Domestic Battery as Class A misdemeanors on two different dates.  The victim is the same person for all three counts.

The Probable Cause Affidavit states that on December 29th Marshall County Police received a call that Heather Dodson had been battered by her husband, Lane Dodson on Tomahawk Trail and she was requesting to speak with an officer.

County Officer Jonathan Bryant headed to an address on Hoham Drive to meet Mrs. Dodson.   While en route he checked the in-house booking system which showed Lane Dodson being booked into the jail on a battery complaint the day before.  He also learned that Dodson had been armed with a handgun.

Officer Bryant met with Mrs. Dodson who had two black eyes.  She said her husband had hit her on December 23rd while they were arguing about her cheating on him.  She indicated that he had also pointed a gun at her at that time and stated to her of “ridding the world of her.”  On December 24th he again punched her all over her body.  Heather alleges he punched her in the throat, knocking her to the ground.

A neighbor of the Dodson’s called while the officer was conducting his investigation at the Hoham address.  They said Lane had stopped out front of their home on Tomahawk Trail in a white Chevrolet Venture van and he was possibly headed to the Hoham address.

A dispatched was sent to officers advising them to locate the van.   They did and stopped it in the K-Mart parking lot where officers shot Dodson after they said he brandished a gun.

The warrant has not been served as the defendant remains hospitalized in Indianapolis.  Judge Bowen set bond at $5000 cash should Mr. Dodson be released from the hospital and arrested on these charges.

Listeners and readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is merely an allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only probable cause to believe a crime has been committed. They are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings and are entitled to be represented by counsel and entitled to a trial by jury at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
