CulverPD_drug arrestTwo people were arrested on drug-related charges after police cars converged on Lake Shore Drive in Culver Wednesday afternoon.

According to Culver Town Marshal Wayne Bean, a call came in at 12:48 p.m. on Wednesday, January 21 of two males acting suspiciously in Culver’s CVS Pharmacy on Ohio Street. One subject was wearing a ski mask over his face while in the store, and both asked several questions of store staff regarding substances designated as precursors to methamphetamine production.

Chief Bean responded to the call, as did an officer with the Indiana State Police. The two subjects drove away from CVS and were pulled over in the 400 block of Lake Shore Drive shortly after, for an unrelated violation.

During conversation with the subjects in the vehicle, which included two males and a female, Bean says conflicting stories and other factors led to further investigation.

Eventually, an expert from the Indiana State Police in precursors and methamphetamine was called, with additional Culver and ISP officers arriving on the scene. The ISP eventually arrested two subjects. They included Jamie Kay Beam, 26, of Argos, who was charged with possession of methamphetamine and possession of a precursor by a methamphetamine offender. Her bond was set at $1,505 cash.

Also arrested was Seth Daniel Layman, 26, of North Liberty. He was charged with possession two or more chemical reagents or precursors with the intent to manufacture controlled substance. Layman’s bond was set at $1,505 cash.
