PLYMOUTH – Construction moves ahead on Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center’s (SJRMC) expansion at its Plymouth campus with a new, state-of-the-art Emergency Department.

SJRMC broke ground for the new 12,000 square-foot Emergency Department onMarch 28 and hopes to have the doors open on Phase one of the project in July of this year. The new Emergency Department will be located adjacent to the Plymouth hospital’s current Emergency Department.

Phase two – the refurbishing of the current emergency facility – is hoped to be completed shortly after. Once the new construction is completed, the original space will be repurposed to support Emergency Department administration, diagnostic imaging and other hospital services. The total project is scheduled to be completed by September 2015 at a cost of $9 million.

SJRMC hopes to have a grand opening for the entire new facility in September.

Loretta Schmidt, president of SJRMC in Plymouth said, “We listened to our community and heard that a new Emergency Department was needed for the benefit of our patients’ well-being. This new state-of-the-art building will transform emergency care here in Marshall and surrounding counties, while creating a superior experience for our patients.”

The new Emergency Department will increase capacity by more than 60 percent, streamline emergency care and increase patient safety and privacy. The new Emergency Department will feature a larger waiting area with a dedicated children’s play area.
